James Ingraham, or JD was raised in East Tennessee. He began piping in the wake of 9/11 after having seen many pipers performing on TV. He spent many summers growing up in the mountains attending the North American Academy of Piping and Drumming and learning from Sandy Jones, Ed Neigh, and other top East Coast players. He joined the Charleston Police Pipes and Drums in Charleston, South Carolina in 2011 and after 3 seasons was named Pipe Major. His leadership guided the band within 2 years to a Southern Championship in Grade 4, winning Champion of Champions in the EUSPBA for Grade 4, and an upgrade to Grade 3. Throughout his piping career he has tried to keep his focus on educating new pipers and honoring his own reasons for starting - namely playing in moments of great emotional importance and to honor the heroes among us.
